Glenwood Area Dollars for Scholars

What is it? Glenwood Dollars for Scholars is a community organization working to provide scholarships for high school graduates who desire to continue their education. The Glenwood chapter was organized in the spring of 1999, and is affiliated with a national non-profit organization.

What is the purpose? The purpose of Dollars for Scholars is to expand the educational opportunities for graduates of the Glenwood Community school system. Scholarships will be awarded for all types of higher education -- trade or technical school, community colleges, universities, private colleges, etc.

How will scholarships be awarded? The grants will be awarded on a fair, non-discriminatory, and equitable basis. A student's involvement in community and school activities will be considered along with academic accomplishment. Applicants will be scored anonymously by the Awards Committee to allow unbiased judgment.

How can you help? Regular or annual contributions of any amount are necessary to support our scholarship programs. The Glenwood Area Dollars for Scholars chapter also accepts donations that can be used to fund a named endowment. The minimum amount required to have an endowment established for a person(s) or business is $5,000. The $5,000 can be pledged over a five year period. Any type of donation or contribution is an investment in our community that establishes a commitment to our greatest resource -- the youth of the Glenwood Community school system.

All donations are tax deductible. The Glenwood Area Dollars for Scholars chapter is a 501(c)(3) organization.

Our goal: to provide a scholarship to every Glenwood graduate seeking higher education. "We started out in 1999 with $130 - $10 each from the original 13 board members. The first year we gave one $250 scholarship. We are giving 35 scholarships this year, totaling $16,595.00.
